At Google I/O 2018, Google announced their Digital Wellbeing. It is a platform that allows the users to maintain a proper balance in their digital and real worlds.
What exactly Digital Wellbeing is? Digital Wellbeing is something that informs one about his/her tech usage and also to take control of the same, if that is something one feels is needed. It is a set of several features, that includes data, insights, tools and a lot more that together will help you to balance your digital life and bring it to mentally and physically healthy levels. No, it is not an application that comes pre-installed, it is a concept, a whole concept that wants to initiate acceptance that the mobile technology has introduced a problem and that needs dealing with.
Why Google? The ill and evil effects of the internet and smartphone technology are long talked about, also research has correlated mental and physical health issues with increased smartphone usage. Google believes that technology should only be used for improving the users life and not to be the centre of one’s life.
How will Android help in this?
- Dashboard: Provides the user an overview of their daily digital activity, including phone usage, individual app usage time, notifications etc.
- App Nanny: This feature allows one to set time limits and restrictions one using certain applications on a daily basis.
- Do No Disturb mode: This is an evolved version of the already existing version, with several added features that allows you to concentrate more on productivity and keeps the technology as yours helping hand and not become the center of your work time or personal spaces.
